Description
SFC Engineering Partnership, Inc. (SFC) was solicited to design a fire sprinkler installation program for the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Field House. The Field House was a building which contained Assembly, Business and Storage Use Groups. It is located at 145 Main Street in Durham, NH, and was to receive an upgrade to its automatic sprinkler system. The existing sprinkler and standpipe system was upgraded to meet applicable portions of the NH State Fire Code, specifically the International Building Code, the Life Safety Code,, the Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems and the Standard for the Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems. In order to supply the building with sufficient water pressure, a fire pump also needed to be installed to comply with the Standard for the Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection.
SFC began by using the existing ACAD drawings provided by UNH and visited the building to walk through and view existing conditions. After meeting with UNH to determine if there are special requirements for the fire sprinkler system, SFC then designed and drafted a preliminary set of performance drawings for the sprinkler system. SFC attended meetings and performed a secondary walkthrough of the building using the preliminary plans. After a final set of plans were supplied, SFC provided UNH with bidding assistance and review of all construction bid applications.
