Atlantic Oceanside, Bar Harbor, ME

Description

A new hotel and conference center was proposed for Bar Harbor, Maine. Retaining walls were required to extend around each end of the culvert. The area is a popular tourist location and the site is right on the ocean. The site sat on the side of a hill with more than forty feet of grade difference across the property. This large grade difference necessitated the construction of several retaining walls and accompanying stairs. In particular, a series of stairs and terraced walls were specified at the corner of the building. This tight area made for a challenging layout. SFC Engineering Partnership, Inc., was able to design a unique mix of steps, double-sided blocks and landscape blocks which created an open landscaped area while blending into the site.
